Biden to end US support for offensive operations in Yemen

IslamNews – President Joe Biden will end US support for “offensive operations” in Yemen, national security adviser Jake Sullivan said Thursday.
“Today, he [Biden] will announce an end to American support for offensive operations in Yemen,” Jake Sullivan, Biden’s national security adviser, said during a news conference. Biden is set to deliver a wide-ranging foreign policy speech at the US Department of State on Thursday.
“Today, he will announce an end to American support for offensive operations in Yemen,” Sullivan told reporters. “That is a promise that he made in the campaign that he will be following through on.”
Biden will deliver a major foreign policy address at the US State Department on Thursday afternoon, during which Sullivan said he will commit the United States to playing a more active and engaged role in the diplomatic efforts to end the six-year conflict.
He will also name a special envoy to Yemen, Sullivan said. The Wall Street Journal reported Biden has tapped career diplomat Timothy Lenderking, who previously served as the deputy chief of mission at the US Embassy in Saudi Arabia, for the position.
